A Christmas charity run here on Thursday raised some BGN 5,000 for children in need in Montana. The event was organized by the municipality, the Montana Youth Centre, and the 5 kmRun association.
The money was raised from participants' fees and donations from citizens and organizations. The Regional Directorate of the Interior in Montana donated BGN 1,000, and the Municipality of Montana and Mayor Zlatko Zhivkov personally donated another BGN 1,000.
The participants were divided into age groups, with the youngest athletes aged between two and five running accompanied by their parents. Children of different ages ran 300 metres, while adults ran distances of 5 and 10 kilometres. Many police officers from Montana, who train at the Diana club at the city police headquarters, took part in the competition.
Mayor Zhivkov hosted the event and presented medals and Christmas stars to the winners and participants in the competition in the different age groups.
