The Bulgarian coastal city of Burgas and the Turkish city of Edirne will implement a project by the Directorate of Culture and Tourism in Edirne entitled “The Path of Culture – A Shared Future”. It will be carried out under the cross-border cooperation programme Interreg VI-A IPA Bulgaria–Turkiye 2021–2027.

“The project under the programme is funded by the European Union (EU) and is being implemented in partnership with the National Academy of Art of Bulgaria,” said Edirne Provincial Director of Culture and Tourism Kemal Soyturk when presenting the project to local media.

According to him, the work on this project is in line with the core policies of the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism and with the future vision for the city of Edirne. He added that the development of the idea went through an intensive preparatory period.

Soyturk noted that the joint project between Edirne and Burgas is among the 13 approved projects out of a total of 43 submitted under the cross-border cooperation programme funded by European programmes.

The project includes the development of a joint concept to promote the tourism potential of the cities of Edirne and Burgas.

To this end, the project envisages the creation of a mobile promotional vehicle offering a virtual experience to visitors who are unfamiliar with the Edirne region. The vehicle will operate as a mobile tourist centre, which is expected to increase Edirne’s tourist appeal and to help more tourists from Bulgaria become acquainted with the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Turkish city located close to the Bulgarian border.
