Sofia, September 14 (BTA) - A little over 30 per cent of teachers have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and a little over 20 per cent have gone through the disease, caretaker Education and Science Minister Nikolay Denkov said on bTV on Tuesday morning, quoted by his Ministry in a press release.

The vaccination uptake of pupils is as low as 2 per cent, Denkov added.

"We failed to cope with teachers' vaccination because the public obviously mistrusts the vaccines. We launched an awareness campaign, I myself am calling on everybody to get vaccinated, but there are regrettably people who talk otherwise," the Education Minister said.

On September 15, the school year will start with in-person classes countrywide, and in the regions with high infection rates the Health Ministry will be consulted for a switch to online instruction, Denkov explained. PP/LG
