The European Spas Association (ESPA) is more united, respected and stronger network than ever, outgoing ESPA President Thierry Dubois said on Wednesday as he passed the post to Siyka Katsarova, President of the Bulgarian Union of Balneology and SPA Tourism (BUBSPA). Dubois, who headed ESPA for nine years, described his successor as a person who will bring in new energy, vision and decisiveness.
Katsarova was elected ESPA President at the European Spas & Balneology Congress 2025, held in Haapsalu from October 8 to 10. The forum is organized by ESPA, which turns 30 this year, in partnership with Estonia’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Industry. BTA is a media partner of the event.
In Dubois' words, the last years were a period of changes, challenges and progress for the spa and wellness sector. The pandemic turned people's attention to health, prevention, and quality of life, which required an adaptation of the traditional models toward shorter stays and higher expectations from the younger generations. Throughout this time, ESPA remained a symbol of stability, professionalism, and innovation, proving its importance in balneotherapy for European citizens, he added.
