site.btaWorld Athletics Officially Includes Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025 in World Athletics Label Road Races

The international association of athletics federations, World Athletics, has officially included the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon 2025 in the World Athletics Label Road Races, thus reaffirming the global status of the event with the prestigious World Athletics Road Race Label, the organizers announced Thursday.

The Wizz Air Marathon is the Bulgarian capital's largest sporting event.

"This is a great recognition for Sofia as the host of the marathon as well as for the quality of organization," said Anatoli Iliev, chief organizer from the Leisure Sports Association. 

"This is expected to attract more runners from around the world," added Militsa Mircheva, who took over as sports director of the marathon in April with the ambition to make the event even more attractive to elite international athletes. 

The news comes exactly one month before the end of regular registration for the Wizz Air Sofia Marathon, which will take place on October 11 and 12. Those wishing to enter can do so until September 20 on the marathon website.

The last chance to join the race, at a higher price, is September 30.
