For the first time, Bulgaria is hosting the annual conference of Euroclassica, the European Federation of Teachers of Classical Languages. The forum was officially opened at Sofia University by Vice-Rector Prof. Madlen Danova. Christian Madzhurov, advisor to the Minister of Education and Science, conveyed the Ministry’s support for the initiative, the ministry’s press office reported.

The international forum places special emphasis on cooperation among European countries in the teaching and learning of ancient languages, particularly Latin and Ancient Greek.

During the conference, Bulgarian and European educators and professors gave lectures on classical languages, ancient heritage, and classical education. The program continued with panel discussions, where participants exchanged experience, ideas, and innovative practices in the field.

The conference is organized by the Association for the Development of University Classical Education, with the support of Sofia University, the municipality of Plovdiv, and other partners.

On August 21, the foreign delegates of Euroclassica will visit Plovdiv, where they will take part in a discussion with representatives of educational institutions and the local community, focusing on the relationship between philological knowledge and the preservation of cultural heritage, according to the Sofia University website.
