Due to new requirements from the US Administration and a new methodology for collecting and transferring customs duties, there will be a significant delay in the delivery of parcels to the US. It is possible that parcels may be returned by the postal operator in the US and need to be re-sent, Bulgarian Posts said on Thursday. The requirements for the preliminary electronic customs declaration data sent to the postal operator in the US have also been increased.

The Universal Postal Union is developing a solution that will allow postal operators to declare and pay customs duties directly to the US authorities. It has not yet been finalized and its operational implementation is under development. As a result, temporary interruptions to regular flows of international mail are expected, the statement said.
