The area of Sinite Kamani Nature Park has been reduced by 1.18 hectares by excluding a land plot from Sliven, the Environment and Water Ministry said on Thursday.

The reduction of the park's area comes afterthe proposal of the Regional Governor of Sliven. Thus, the total area of the nature park now amounts to 11,38 hectares, the Ministry noted. Four new protected areas have been added, with Marinov Dol, Sazladzhata and Golyama Syutka included in the Protected Area category, and Fran Kaya and Delikli Kaya categorized as a Natural Landmark.

The Marinov Dol Protected Area was declared with the aim of preserving a complex of diverse beech forests, high-mountain spruce forests and nesting habitats of rare and protected bird species. The Sazladzhata Protected Area comprises a complex of pure and mixed forests of beech and nesting habitats of rare and protected bird species such as the black stork. The Golyama Syutka Protected Area includes habitats of conservation-significant species such as the brown bear, wolf, otter, three-toed woodpecker and others. Fran Kaya and Delikli Kaya was declared a Natural Landmark with the aim of protecting a remarkable object of inanimate nature, including rock formations with representative and aesthetic value.

At the beginning of 2025, environmentalists gathered in front of the Environment and Waters Ministry in Sofia to demand a halt to the reduction of the park's territory. "Is this the idea of rule of law of the Environment and Water Ministry and the Agriculture Ministry? That a rich man can come along, illegally fence off (...) public state property and (...) then simply own it?" Green Movement co-leader Toma Belev asked at the time.
