Bulgarian Olympic Committee President-elect Vesela Lecheva participated in a meeting of the National Olympic Committees, which had their representatives at the Olympism365 Summit: Sport for a Better World meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was discussed how the individual countries can develop the Olympic Solidarity Pogramme, benefit from ideas and funding in order to sustain and develop their organisations.
Beforehand, Lecheva spoke with Emma Terho, Chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes Commission, and Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, who was among the keynote speakers at the conference. After hosting the World Cup, Qatar has ambitions to host Olympic Games.
The summit was closed by newly elected IOC President Kirsty Coventry.
At the Summit, 68 organisations reaffirmed 45 commitments to use sport as a tool to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals. These initiatives are projected to generate over USD 200 million over the next four years to build a better world through sport.
The next forum will take place in 2029, and participants will be able to assess the progress of the initiative established in the Olympic capital.
