site.btaHungary Appreciates Bulgaria's Efforts as Reliable Gas Transmission Partner, Its Foreign Minister Szijjarto Says
The more sources of energy a country has, the more stable and secure it is in its supply, said Hungary's Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto during an official inspection of the Vertical Gas Corridor construction progress in the area of the village of Mikrevo in Strumyani Municipality (Southwestern Bulgaria) on Thursday.
According to him, after the shutdown of one of the gas pipelines, energy supplies to Europe have deteriorated. Szijjarto stressed that Hungary understands and appreciates Bulgaria's efforts as a reliable partner in gas transmission.
"Today we are witnessing a fast and efficient construction of a new gas pipeline, which provides an additional gas supply route for Hungary," he said. Szijjarto added that the pipeline will also pass through Romania, increasing the capacity between Romania and Hungary.
The Minister pointed out that energy supplies to Central Europe are vital for the whole continent, which is why the European Commission is allocating additional funds for their implementation.
The event was also attended by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Bulgartransgaz CEO Vladimir Malinov, Glavbolgarstroy Board Chair Kalin Peshov, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov and Greece's Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou.
The Vertical Gas Corridor is a large-scale infrastructure project aimed at enhancing energy security and supply continuity, while providing access to diversified natural gas sources for Bulgaria and the South-East European region.
