site.btaParliament Rejects Energy Act Amendment Vetoed by President Radev

Following a debate on amendments to the Energy Act adopted on January 12 but later vetoed by President Rumen Radev, the National Assembly Friday rejected the controversial Section 24 of the bill. The amended Energy Act will now enter into force without the provisions challenged by Radev.
According to the presidential veto, the provisions stipulating that by the end of 2023 the financial settlement prepared by the electricity system operator should be carried out at a time interval of one hour, rather than 15 minutes as is the EU requirement, deviate from the norms of Regulation (EU) 2017/2195 and Regulation (EU) 2019/943 as well as hinder the socioeconomic benefits in Bulgaria.
On October 1, 2022, the electricity transmission system operator and the exchange operator in Bulgaria introduced a 15-minute period for the settlement of imbalances and 15-minute products for intraday market trading.
