Caretaker Energy Minister Traicho Traikov, who inspected the progress of repair works at the Chaira Pumped-Storage Power Plant on Saturday, told journalists that “extremely extensive and serious work” has been carried out at the facility.

He reported that the repair of Hydro Unit 2 at the plant is nearing completion. Hydro Unit 3, which is also under repair, is scheduled to be put into operation at the beginning of April. The minister reminded that a contract has already been signed for the repair of Hydro Unit 1. Regarding Hydro Unit 4, Traikov noted that it has the most serious technical issues.

Traikov said he has requested the preparation of a roadmap for the entire restoration process, which will be publicly presented.

He also reminded that the facility was in excellent condition 16 years ago, but failures in 2022 led to the current difficult situation. The caretaker Minister voiced confidence that the teams are working systematically and that the necessary steps for full restoration are clearly laid out.
