The small consumer basket reached EUR 58.80 in January, which represents an increase of EUR 0.75, or 1.3%, compared to December. This was announced by Violeta Ivanova, Deputy Director of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research and Training (ISURT) of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), at a press conference on Friday. She presented the union's data on monitoring prices in the small consumer basket in the weeks following the introduction of the euro.

The price survey was conducted between January 6 and 10 and compared with data from December 2025.

Ivanova noted a significant increase in the price of tomatoes (15.2%) and cucumbers (5.5%). She also noted a 6.5% increase in the price of potatoes. Increases in the prices of chicken, yoghurt, oil and eggs were also more noticeable. Meanwhile, there was a slight decrease in the price of apples and rice.

Ivanova also reported an increase in the price of espresso coffee of nearly 6% in stores and small retail outlets. Mineral water prices have increased by 5.6%. She commented that this increase is due to currency revaluation rather than objective factors, as coffee prices on international markets have remained stable.
