The Haskovo District Court announced that a Turkish national has pleaded guilty and received a two-year suspended sentence for smuggling two trucks of cigarettes through the Kapitan Andreevo border control checkpoint. This followed an agreement between the defence of the 56-year-old defendant, Y. K., and the Plovdiv District Prosecution Office, which was approved by the court.

The offence was committed as a continuing crime from March 17 to 29, 2015. On both occasions, Y. K. acted with accomplices and co-perpetrators at the border crossing. The total value of the unstamped excise goods is estimated at BGN 13.95 million (EUR 7.13 million).

The court's decision is final.
