An exhibition titled “Tesseract – Universe Geometry” by Dutch-based Bulgarian artist Valentin Bakardjiev was officially opened at the Mission Gallery of the State Cultural Institute (SCI) with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 10. Among the official guests at the opening were SCI Director Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, and Robin Peters, Deputy Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bulgaria.
Curator Niya Tabakova highlighted that Valentin Bakardjiev and his art serve as a bridge between cultures, the past and the present, traditional crafts and contemporary artistic practices.
In his remarks, Bakardjiev welcomed the guests, thanked them for their presence, and elaborated on the title of the exhibition and the concept of the tesseract: “A square has two dimensions, a cube has three, and the tesseract is the fourth dimension, which means that from each side of a cube one enters another cube. Knowing this, the idea for an exhibition came to me – one where the square becomes the guiding element. Within each square, I sought to discover new dimensions.”
The exhibition will remain on display until September 19, 2025.
Bakardjiev was born in Sliven, Bulgaria. He completed his education in Bulgaria before living and working in the Dominican Republic and Italy. He currently resides in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He has taken part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Paris, Amsterdam, Geneva, Rijswijk, Toyota City, Chicago, among other cities. His works have been the subject of publications and lectures focused on sustainable materials and their use in contemporary art.
