Bulgarian Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov and Interior Minister Daniel Mitov have ordered a specialized countrywide operation against cybercrime and drug dealing among pupils, the prosecution service announced on Friday. Prosecutors and Interior Ministry personnel will closely cooperate on applying the planned measures in the long-term nationwide.

The joint operation covers areas around schools, shopping centres, nightclubs, and other places frequented by pupils and young people, in view of the approaching start of the new school year on September 15.

The operation is intended to detect and detain individuals distributing drugs and to prioritize the completion of criminal proceedings, the prosecution service noted.
Multiple measures to protect pupils and young people in cyberspace are also planned. Reports submitted through the national children's helpline and the Bulgarian Safer Internet Centre will also be analyzed in order to suppress cybercrime and the sexual exploitation of children, the statement specified.
