The Bulgarian-Ukrainian co-production The End of the River will be shown on April 24, at the Cinema House in Sofia, the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad announced. The film's director is Vasil Barkov, who is a Bessarabian Bulgarian.

Special guests at the screening will be Ukrainian actress Katerina Molchanova, who plays the lead female role, and the film’s art director Volodymyr Filippov.

The film seeks to show the universal in human experiences across borders. It is an emotional and visually impactful work, a collaboration between Bulgarian and Ukrainian filmmakers, the Agency said. “A story of lost and rediscovered relationships against a backdrop of dramatic twists, spiritual journeys, and contemporary challenges,” the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad said.

The film is set in the town of Vylkove, known as the "Ukrainian Venice," on the Danube Delta. As fate would have it, a Bulgarian ends up there, is suspected of the manslaughter of a nine-year-old boy and must stay in town while he is investigated. He not only finds a job and a new life among Lipovan Old Believers but also meets his true love.

The film was co-produced by the Bulgarian National Film Centre, the Ukrainian State Film Agency, the Odesa Film Studio and a Bulgarian production company.
