A painting by American artist Jackson Pollock (1912-1956) was seized in a raid by the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (GDCOC), the Interior Ministry reported on Tuesday. The operation, which also involved foreign agencies, targeted illegal trafficking of cultural property.
Several people including Bulgarian citizens have been arrested.
The prosecution service said that additional expertise will be appointed to examine the authenticity of the painting. According to an expert opinion, the piece could be authentic, however, further testing is needed.
The painting has been admitted as evidence in the case and is stored under appropriate conditions and with the necessary security.
The GDCOC continues its investigation under the guidance and supervision of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.
