Health Minister Silvi Kirilov Tuesday addressed a forum on "Medical Professionals Under Threat: How Can Broken Trust Be Healed?", which is part of a national campaign of the professional association against violence towards healthcare workers, #FightTheAnger. Kirilov said that respecting doctors is respecting life, and that despite civilizational progress, violence has reached critical levels in the 21st century, making the issue increasingly relevant. He noted that acts of aggression, which used to be isolated incidents, have now become almost a daily occurrence.
Violence against medical professionals, whether physical, verbal or psychological, is not a solution to any problem, the Minister stressed. Aggression not only fails to heal, but undermines the foundations of the healthcare system, directly affecting the doctor-patient relationship.
"Threats and fear have no place in a civilized society, which is what we claim to be," the Health Minister said. The Health Ministry will continue to support strict measures in this regard.
