During a debate on the no-confidence vote against the government for “failure in the area of fiscal policy”, BSP-United Left Floor Leader Dragomir Stoynev said that the no-confidence vote is harmful, but the debate itself is useful.

“BSP-United Left will vote against this vote of no confidence because we believe that Bulgaria's stability, social justice and European direction should not be threatened because of fear, as not fear but reason should lead Bulgarian politics, Dragomir Stoynev said in conclusion.

In response, MECh leader Radostin Vassilev accused BSP-United Left of “astonishing hypocrisy”. “Naturally, the vote demands the political destabilisation of the government,” he said. “Call MECh populist and anti-systemic if you want, but it is fighting the corruption system created by Borissov and Peevski, in which you are functioning well,” he said.

Vassilev accused BSP-United Left of betraying Bulgarian pensioners and Bulgarian mothers. “Who among your voters wants the introduction of the euro?”  Vassilev added.

"We will lose precious parliamentary time, but we will share truths about the fiscal state at the beginning of the year and about what has been achieved so far, namely increased incomes, a necessary budget, conditions for growth and support for the most vulnerable. Difficult decisions taken at a difficult time," Stoynev said regarding the debate.

He pointed out that the BSP-United Left did not underestimate the topic and were ready for a serious debate on the fiscal policy of the state. "But we are also obliged to point out that this vote is another attempt at political destabilization, masked behind supposedly expert and political concern," Stoynev said.

“The no-confidence vote is neither serious nor responsible, it is part of a series of political actions of populist parties such as Vazrazhdane, MECh, Velichie [Grandeur], which use people’s fear as a political tool. These formations do not offer an alternative, they offer fear, doubt and confrontation," said the BSP-United Left Floor Leader.

“Behind this attack, something deeper and more dangerous is visible - an attack on Bulgaria's strategic direction, he said. In his words, the big goal of introducing the euro is part of Bulgaria's long-standing policy as a responsible EU member. “It is not just a currency, it is a geopolitical choice, economic stability, investment attractiveness, social security,” Stoynev said.

“Those who tabled the no-confidence vote are not just questioning the government's decisions, they are denying Bulgaria's European path, they have created a dividing line in our traditionally pro-European society, turning natural social fears into a political campaign,” Stoynev said.

“This is the third vote of no confidence in a few months. Such abuse of a key instrument of parliamentary control undermines democracy and leads not to solutions but to citizens' apathy and disillusionment with politics,” he said.
