Former President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO), Tzvetan Tzvetkov, told the Bulgarian National Television on Friday that the reason he was dismissed from his post on January 20, 2023, were BNAO's critical reports. On Thursday, the Constitutional Court unanimously declared unconstitutional the previous parliament's decision to remove Tzvetkov from office.

Tzvetkov will officially be reinstated as BNAO President three days after the Court's decision gets promulgated in the State Gazette.

Tzvetkov described the reasoning for his dismissal as an artificially fabricated scandal. He said that at the moment it is unclear what is happening with BNAO's reports, because his successor, Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva, has not taken the oath, which leaves room for questioning whether the acts of BNAO are entirely legitimate.

One of Tzvetkov's first tasks as President will be to check the progress of the BNAO reports, which have been forwarded to the prosecution service. A total of 37 BNAO reports have been referred to the prosecution service over the past six years due to alleged serious violations, Tzvetkov added.

One of the reports that have not received publicity in 2023 is the one about Bulgarian Post. The report states that the company management is inefficient, generates losses, and no investments have been made in the information security system, although there were funds planned for this. According to Tzvetkov, this is one of the reasons the company suffered a massive cyberattack in May 2022.
