Unit 6 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has been shut down for the replacement of safety membrane devices in the turbine’s moisture separator reheaters, located in the conventional, non-nuclear part of the unit, the plant said on its official website here on Tuesday. The shutdown was carried out on March 3.
The new devices to be installed are made of materials identical to the original ones. Tests conducted in independent laboratories have confirmed that the materials meet the required quality standards. After the planned repair activities are completed, Unit 6 will be reconnected to the country’s power grid.
Unit 5 is operating according to schedule, with a load of 1,048 megawatts, according to information published on the nuclear power plant’s website.
On February 19, during a hearing in Parliament, Kozloduy NPP Chief Executive Director Ivan Andreev said the foregone revenue from ungenerated electricity due to two forced shutdowns of Unit 6 at the Kozloduy NPP in December 2025 and February 2026 will amount to BGN 18 million, and this should not be described as losses. Part of the missed benefits will be offset through the rescheduling and extension of the annual planned maintenance outage.
