Outgoing Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov Thursday met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Zhelyazkov's cabinet said in a social media post. The meeting took place on the sides of a pre-summit meeting on the invitation of European leaders.

The two discussed strengthening energy security through stabilizing electricity prices, improving grid connectivity, and optimizing the emissions trading system. The two government leaders also discussed strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries.

They agreed that the European Council must formulate clear goals with deadlines to make sure by March a roadmap is prepared with short-term measures for raising the competitiveness of the EU, ensure an efficient internal market and broader access for European producers to the global markets.
