site.btaSofia Municipal Council Expands Paid Parking Zones, Increases Prices of Parking Tickets from 2026
The Sofia Municipal Council expanded the scope of paid parking zones on the territory of the capital from January 5, 2026, and increased the prices of parking fees.
The prices for hourly parking in the blue zone will be EUR 2 per hour and EUR 1 per hour in the green zone. The yearly parking pass for residents in the blue zone will cost EUR 150 and EUR 100 for the green zone. The prices for a ticket for a second car will increase to EUR 300 in the blue zone and EUR 200 in the green zone, said municipal coucilor Simeon Stavrev from the Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria group. He added that the paper ticket for paid parking will be removed from July 1, 2026.
With the changes, the blue zone will include several boroughs around the centre of Sofia, reaching Opalchentska street to the West, Sitnyakovo boulevard to the East, General Danail Nikolaev Boulevard to the North and Akademik Ivan Evstratiev Geshov Boulevard to the South.
The introduction of the new green zones will take place in stages in 2026, and will include the boroughs of Dianabad, Izgrev and Iztok to the East (with part of Studentski Grad to be included from 2027), Lozenets and Hladilnika to the South, Krasno Selo, Hipodruma and Zona B-18 to the West, and Banishora, Hadzhi Dimitar and Stefan Karadzha to the North.
Stavrev pointed out that another important change are the working hours of the blue zone, namely from Monday to Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The working hours of the green zone will be from Monday to Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Parking for electric vehicles will be free for up to three hours in the blue and green zones from from January 1, 2027.
A weekend zone will also be introduced on several streets in Bankya, where residents can get an yearly pass free of charge.
