Turkish customs at the Kapikule border checkpoint near Edirne seized 36.18 kg of cocaine in a pickup truck entering Turkiye from the Bulgarian Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint.

Acting on a tipoff, the Demiroren News Agency reports, Edirne Customs Enforcement Anti-Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams sent the pickup truck for x-ray scanning as part of risk analyses procedures. Upon detecting a difference in density, the customs teams conducted a search with the participation of a narcotics detector dog.

During the search, the cocaine, divided into bags and hidden inside the door upholstery of the driver and passenger seats, was seized. The driver was charged with drug trafficking and taken into custody. His nationality has not been disclosed.
