Late Thursday evening, the Turkish Parliament voted, 276-0, to pass a bill ratifying the protocol on Finland's accession to NATO, Turkish state television TRT-Haber reported.

Addressing the plenary sitting, MPs pointed out that at this stage there are no serious issues in the relations between Turkiye and Finland with regard to Ankara's counterterrorism interests. At the same time, the speakers said that Sweden, which is bidding to join the Alliance together with Finland, has yet to meet the demands in the memorandum signed with Turkiye and is not yet ready to become part of the organization.

"I welcome the vote of the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye to complete the ratification of Finland's accession. This will make the whole NATO family stronger & safer," NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg tweeted in response.
