Drone debris has been found on a beach at Romania’s largest and most popular Black Sea resort, Mamaia, local media reported. A resident of Constanta called the emergency number 112 on Monday evening to report the find.

Border police officers who arrived at the scene identified metal fragments, and police secured the area. The case is being investigated under the coordination of the prosecution office at the Constanta Court of Appeal.

Authorities are expected to determine whether the object was an aerial or maritime drone and whether it was carrying a payload. Sources familiar with the case do not rule out the possibility that the object was a decoy drone or a target simulator without a pyrotechnic charge.

“Drone debris was brought ashore by the water on the beach near the Victoria Hotel in Mamaia,” Defence Minister Radu Miruta said on Antena 3 CNN. He added that representatives of Romania’s intelligence service and officials from a specialized unit of the Defence Ministry are also expected to arrive at the scene to recover the drone parts for possible expert analysis.
