Bulgarian customs officers intercepted GBP 71,230 in undeclared cash at the Kapitan Andreevo crossing on the border with Turkiye after checking an outbound Turkish-registered semi-trailer truck, the Customs Agency reported on Monday.
When the vehicle arrived at the border on February 6, the Turkish driver declared that he was transporting flowers from the Netherlands to Turkiye. The officers discovered 10 packets of pounds sterling hidden in the semi-trailer, tucked inside a cut plastic container under an iron chain in a cupboard. Another three packets of British currency were found inside the seats in the driver's cabin.
Pretrial proceedings were launched in the case under the supervision of the Svilengrad Prosecution Office.
