Ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections in Moldova, the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC) has issued a Voter’s Guide in Bulgarian and four other minority languages, including Ukrainian, Russian, Gagauz and Romani.
Moldova’s parliamentary elections will take place on September 28, with citizens electing 101 members of parliament for a four-year term. Voting will be held under a proportional system, with ballots cast for party lists or independent candidates. All Moldovan citizens aged 18 and over are eligible to vote.
The Voter’s Guide provides basic information on the powers of parliament, voter eligibility, required documents, voting procedures, and the steps to follow in case of irregularities.
On election day, posters in Bulgarian will be displayed at all polling stations to facilitate access to information for the Bulgarian community. The CEC has additionally prepared information materials for citizens voting abroad and in the Transnistrian region. Leaflets will also be distributed nationwide by mobile teams.
The CEC is responsible for the overall organization of the elections, from the printing of ballots and training of polling station staff to the voter information campaigns. On election day, the process will be monitored by domestic and international observers assessing the transparency and legality of the vote.
According to the 2024 Population and Housing Census, ethnic minorities account for 14% of Moldova’s population. The largest groups are Ukrainians (4.9%), Gagauz (4.2%), Russians (3.2%), Bulgarians (1.6%) and Roma (0.4%).
