site.btaSofia Police Detain over 120,000 Units of Laughing Gas Worth Nearly BGN 20 Mln

The Sofia Police seized more than 120,000 units of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) worth nearly BGN 20 million. The operation was carried out on Thursday, Chief Inspector Alexander Netsov of the capital's First District Police Station told reporters on Friday.

The work on the criminal group began after operational information. The group and their vehicles were monitored, and the laughing gas was found in a building with storage facilities. The banned substance was stored in 54 pallets of canisters and capsules.

The activities of the company behind this trade were disguised with other official activities, the Sofia police said.

According to the police, the goods were intended for bars and discos in Sofia and on the Black Sea coast, as well as for export to other European countries.

The laughing gas is estimated at BGN 8 million to BGN 20 million, depending on where and how it would have been sold. The police and the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency have already seized the goods.
