Burgas is hosting the second week of the 2025 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League, with the Bulgarian national team playing against Japan on Wednesday in the Arena Burgas.
Before the match, team captain Aleks Grozdanov stated that the team is in a good mood and ready for the upcoming matches. "We are playing in Bulgaria after all - the mood cannot be bad. We are preparing well, I think everything is fine. We are looking forward to the matches," he emphasized.
The captain pointed out that the young players of the national team rely mainly on the team collective, as well as on the strong opening shot and the emotion that the support of the audience in the sports hall can bring. "We are quite young. In my opinion, the collective is visible in the team. This will be key, both now and in the coming years. We have a strong serve, although we make more mistakes, it is a rather dangerous element in our game," Grozdanov noted, adding that the atmosphere in the hall and the energy of the fans will be decisive factors in the team's performance.
"The emotion on the court, the audience, these are the things we will rely on," he stated. "The opening match will be the most serious, as it is the first (of the week) and because it is against Japan. They have a different style of play. It will not be easy at all, but the other matches will be just as difficult," Grozdanov concluded.
The 2025 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League is held from 11 June to 3 August 2025, with the final being held in Ningbo, China. After the opening week of the tournament Bulgaria ranks tenth, with only the top 8 teams advancing to the quarterfinals. In Burgas, the team will play against Japan, Slovenia, Turkiye and Ukraine.
