The 1876 April Uprising of Bulgarians  against their Ottoman rulers 1876 precipitated the 1877-1878 Russo-Turkish War that led to Bulgaria's liberation.

In the morning, Kiselova laid flowers at the grave of the legendary Bulgarian revolutionary Todor Kableshkov, who fired the first shot of the April Uprising on April 20, 1876, located in the courtyard of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Church. After that, Kiselova participated in the official ceremony in front of the Monument of the April Uprising on April 20 Square in Koprivshtitsa.

“The April Uprising is an example of the fact that freedom is not a gift to us and that the Bulgarian revolutionaries gave what they could, namely, their lives,” said Kiselova in Koprivshtitsa,  adding that the price of freedom is always high and that this means valor, reason, justice, in certain cases, a strong backbone, and always a focus on the common good.

Later on Thursday, the National Assembly Chair will accept the honorary formation of the representative companies of the Asenovgrad garrison at the National Dawn Rally on April 20 Square in Panagyurishte. She will deliver a speech on the occasion of the anniversary.

“The courage of the April people, their sacrifice and faith oblige us to follow their great testament and always uphold the justice, freedom, dignity and honour of Bulgaria,” said Kiselova on Wednesday in her speech on the occasion of the 149th anniversary of the April Uprising in Koprivshtitsa. Kiselova accepted the report of the commander of the solemn dawn inspection and congratulated the representative companies of the Karlovy Vary garrison on April 20 Square. “Our ancestors showed us that freedom is won with courage, with audacity and with reason, that freedom is a priceless gift, which we defend every day with valor, wisdom and unity,” she said, noting: “Therefore, to this day we bear the heavy responsibility to be worthy of their enormous sacrifice”.
