A three-day national mourning was declared in Turkiye in memory of those killed in the Gaza Strip, stated a decree signed by Turkish head of State Recep Tayyip Erdogan, cited by CNN-Turk television on Thursday.

"The three-day nationwide mourning has been declared to share the pain of the Palestinian people for those killed and wounded in the Israeli attacks on civilians as well as in the latest attack on a hospital on October 17," the document issued late on Wednesday night reads.

Flags in this country and at its foreign missions will be lowered during the three-day mourning period.

“We in Turkiye feel in our hearts the immense pain that our Palestinian brothers have experienced. A three-day nationwide mourning has been declared in our country as a sign of our respect for the thousands of people who have died, most of them children and innocent civilians," Erdogan wrote on his X social media account.

Following the attack on the Al Ahli Arab Hospital in the Gaza Strip, which Hamas blamed on Israel, protests against Israel were organized in many cities in Turkiye, including Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir.
