Bekir Kadrieski, chair of the Shemeto Association of Bulgarians in Struga, North Macedonia, was assaulted by unknown men at noon on Tuesday in a public place.in Struga. The assailants started verbally abusing him and punched him in the stomach. Currently Kadrieski is in hospital where he is subjected to tests.
The Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje and the General Consulate in Bitola are following the case and Bulgarian Ambassador Angel Angelov is in touch with Kadrieski, while the Bulgarian consul is in Struga. The police in Struga took Kadrieski’s statement to establish the facts and whether this is a case of hate crime. Kadrieski is not a Bulgarian citizen.
