A Bulgarian Spartan aircraft carrying close to 4.5 t of humanitarian aid for Syria, has landed at Beirut Thursday after a three-hour flight from Sofia. The aid is now unloaded and will continue its trip to the quake-hit areas of Syria by land.

The Spartan was met at the airport by the Bulgarian Ambassador to Lebanon, Boyan Belev.

Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev said that the further shipment of the humanitarian aid will be done with the help of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The aid includes blankets and bedding provided by the Bulgarian Red Cross, as well as tents and more blankets from the Bulgarian fire service.

It was sent by Bulgaria after Syria requested aid from the EU.

From Beirut, the Spartan will fly to Turkiye to collect medical teams of the Sofia Military Medical Academy, who have been part of the quake rescue efforts there for ten days now.
