Bulgarian rescuers and local teams successfully extracted a 4-year-old child and a man from a building ruined by the recent earthquakes in Turkiye, the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Civil Protection said in a Facebook post.
The child and the man are already handed over to the medical teams.
Dr. Veselin Yolov, who works at the Interior Ministry’s Medical Institute and is part of Bulgarian team, had the difficult task to participate directly in a complicated surgical life-saving procedure. Thanks to him, an injured man was given a second chance to live. All actions of the Bulgarian team are coordinated with representatives of the local authorities, the post said.
Currently, there are 78 men from the Fire Safety and Civil Protection General Directorate in Turkiye, camped at the stadium in Besni, Adiyaman province.
The Bulgarian Interior Ministry organized 28 volunteers who left for the quake-hit regions even on February 7. Another 20 are leaving Thursday on a Turkish Airlines flight.
Bulgarian Red Cross rescue teams and Sofia City Hall’s rescuers are operating in the region of Adana.
