The Annual Percentage Rate of charge (APR) on housing loans granted by commercial banks in Bulgaria in December 2025 increased to an average of 2.9%, according to the latest data from the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) published on Thursday. For comparison, the average APR on home loans - which includes all interest payments, fees, commissions and other borrower-borne costs required for loan approval - stood at 2.86% in November, while in December 2024 it was 2.82%.

The average annual interest rate on new mortgage loans denominated in leva granted in December amounted to 2.48%, unchanged from November. On an annual basis, the rate declined from 2.50% in December 2024.

In the final month of 2025, the volume of new housing loans reached BGN 1.38 billion, representing a 47.3% increase year on year and a 25% rise compared to the previous month.

The average annual interest rate on new consumer loans denominated in levs granted in December 2025 rose to 9.43%, up from an average of 8.84% in November and down from 10.03% in December 2024. The APR on consumer loans averaged 9.76% in December, compared with 9.17% in November and 10.68% in December 2024. The volume of consumer loans granted in December increased by 25.6% on an annual basis to BGN 854.9 million, while declining by 9.3% month on month.

The average annual interest rate on new time deposits in levs placed by households in December 2025 reached 0.85%, compared with 0.81% in November and 1.07% in December 2024.

For new time deposits denominated in euros, the average annual interest rate stood at 1.24% in December, down from 1.44% a month earlier and 1.49% in December 2024.

The volume of new household time deposits in December amounted to BGN 662.9 million for lev-denominated deposits and EUR 264.2 million for euro-denominated deposits. On an annual basis, the volume of new lev deposits increased by 73.1%, while euro deposits recorded a year-on-year decline of 3.4%.
