Cultural tourism needs to be the focus of Bulgaria in 2026, regardless of who will be minister of tourism, outgoing Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh said on Friday. He participated at an event in Plovdiv dedicated to the vision for the development of cultural tourism in Bulgaria.
He emphasized that Bulgaria as a tourist destination has always been developed in the direction of summer and to some extent winter tourism. The minister pointed out that the goal of this meeting is to show cultural institutes that they have the full support from the ministry for what they would like to implement.
Regions are increasingly becoming an emphasis in world tourism, Borshosh noted and pointed to Italy as an example. "Countries are running a big image campaign, but the regions are the ones that develop the specifics of the product they offer as destinations. When we talk about tourism in Italy, there is a common idea, but all regions emphasize their own strengths and attractive goals. And that is why our regional cultural institutes are important to us," he stressed.
He stated that there has been an extremely large jump in domestic tourism in Bulgaria in 2025. "We have concentrated advertising and marketing on our domestic market, which is the backbone of Bulgarian tourism. Bulgarians love to travel around their own country," Borshosh pointed out.
