site.btaBulgaria’s Accession Brings Number of Euro Users to 358 Mln, Says ECB President
In a Facebook post on Friday, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde said that, following Bulgaria’s accession as the 21st member of the euro area, some 358 million Europeans were now using the euro as their currency every day.
“With Bulgaria becoming the 21st country to adopt the euro, around 358 million Europeans now use our single currency every day”, Lagarde wrote.
A day earlier, she said that she warmly welcomes Bulgaria to the euro family and Bulgarian National Bank Governor Dimitar Radev to the table of the ECB’s Governing Council in Frankfurt. Speaking at the official entry of Bulgaria into the group of countries using the euro, Lagarde added that the single currency was a powerful symbol of what Europe could achieve when working together, as well as of the shared values and collective strength that could be drawn upon to address the global geopolitical uncertainty currently facing the continent.
The ECB marked Bulgaria’s official adoption of the euro with a light installation projected onto the facade of its headquarters in Frankfurt.
