Prof. Vasil Kirov, Chair of the General Assembly of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS), has been elected a member of the Academia Europaea at the invitation of its President, Prof. Donald Dingwell, BAS said in a press release on Friday. 

The announcement was made during the Building Bridges 2025: 36th Annual Conference of Academia Europaea (AE) and 14th Conference of the Young Academy of Europe (YAE) held in Barcelona.

Prof. Kirov is also Deputy Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at BAS. The Academy described his election as an important recognition for the scientific community in Bulgaria and across Central and Eastern Europe.

Founded in 1988, Academia Europaea promotes excellence and the advancement of scholarship in the humanities, law, economics, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine, and all branches of natural and technological sciences. The academy counts 89 Nobel laureates among its members, including 11 scholars from Bulgaria.
