The flow of the Maritsa River near Edirne has increased from 384 to 1,119 cu me per second due to rainfall over the past two days.
Rain and snowmelt in Bulgaria, combined with heavy rains in the Edirne region, have caused the river’s flow to rise about three times compared to previous days, according to the Regional Directorate of Water Management in Edirne.
The rainfall has also increased the flow of the Arda and Tundzha rivers, which feed into the Maritsa.
The Tundzha River overflowed its banks near the village of Sarayici in Turkiye, but there is no danger to the environment or residential buildings, reports Haberler.
According to the authorities in Edirne, the increased water flow of the Maritsa, Arda, and Tundzha rivers, which pass through the Edirne region, currently does not pose a danger.
“Our authorities are in contact with the Bulgarian side, and river levels are being monitored 24 hours a day, in real time and via online access. The rise in water levels at the confluence of the three rivers in Edirne is not expected to create a flood risk,” reads a statement from the Edirne governor’s office.
