site.btaBulgaria Becomes Official Member of European Molecular Biology Conference

Bulgaria has become an official member of the European Molecular Biology Conference (EMBC), the Ministry of Education and Science said here on Friday.

Bulgaria's membership was unanimously approved in 2024, and the official accession was finalized on July 9, 2025, making Bulgaria the 32nd full member of the EMBC.

The accession expands the opportunities for development and professional realization of Bulgarian scientists, who will be able to participate in various programmes, trainings, and courses, including the Young Investigator Programme.

Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev said that the EMBC membership will support the development of scientific research and innovation in the field of molecular biology and will encourage cooperation between academia, industry, and institutions, as well as increase the international competitiveness of Bulgarian scientists.

EMBC President Nektarios Tavernarakis welcomed Bulgaria's accession and expressed optimism for productive collaboration with Bulgarian researchers, aiming to enhance their collective impact and visibility in the international scientific community.

European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) Director Fiona Watt, noted that Bulgarian scientists' access to the organization's programmes and resources will support their career development and facilitate international scientific exchange.

The Ministry of Education and Science said that membership will help build scientific links with leading European institutions, encourage international partnerships, knowledge and technology transfer, and deeper integration of the Bulgarian scientific community into EMBO's expert network.
