Turkiye is seeking to become a strategic storage hub for food products of regional and global importance, Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli was quoted as saying by the Anadolu Agency.

"Recently, the World Food Programme (WFP) has approached us with a request to turn Turkiye into a strategic warehouse for food products of regional and global importance. (...) With the help of President Erdogan, we hope to turn our country into a strategic warehousing centre, and work is already underway to establish an institution to deal with this process," Yumakli said Monday, underlining the country's strategic location giving it an advantage for delivering food to those in need.

"We have increased our agricultural production from USD 30 billion to 75 billion, and a large part of this increase is due to the growth in our exports," Yumakli added, citing 2023 figures that put Turkiye in first place in agricultural production in Europe and among the top ten countries in the world.
