Bulgarian Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev took part in the 32nd annual meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ministerial Council, held in Vienna under Finland’s chairmanship, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release on Thursday.
In his address to the plenary session, Georgiev stressed that Europe is facing one of its most uncertain periods in decades as a result of Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine. He reaffirmed Bulgaria’s strong support for Ukraine and welcomed US efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on international law, in coordination with Kyiv and its European partners.
Speaking about the discussion launched earlier this year on modernizing and improving the OSCE’s functionality, the Minister emphasized that reforms must preserve the organization’s core role as a forum for dialogue, conflict prevention, and accountability for violations of the Helsinki principles.
Ahead of the meeting, Georgiev joined an informal dinner attended by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, focused on solidarity with Ukraine and on strengthening OSCE support, including for the country’s future recovery and post-war resilience.
