Bulgaria’s national wheelchair basketball team made history by claiming the title at the European Championship Division C, held in Samokov. The team, coached by Denislav Ivanov, defeated Sweden 71:44 in the final played at “Arena SamElion” on Friday.

The first half was closely contested, but in the second half the Bulgarians showed the strong form they had displayed throughout the tournament and broke Sweden’s resistance, finishing the competition undefeated with six straight wins. Vice President Iliana Iotova attended the match alongside the President of the Bulgarian Basketball Federation, Georgi Glushkov.

With this triumph, the “Lions” captured their first-ever European wheelchair basketball title since the team’s establishment. Just a day earlier, the Bulgarian side also secured promotion to Division B. Belgium took third place at the championship after beating Serbia 71:32 in the bronze medal match.
