GERB leader Boyko Borissov has asked the party’s representatives in the Municipal Election Commission (MEC) in Varna to vote against the dismissal of Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, the GERB party confirmed to BTA on Saturday. Borissov explained that he does not want and does not like victories by default, the statement said.

The MEC will convene on Sunday to review three complaints filed against Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, it reported earlier in the day. The most recent complaint was submitted on November 21. In a message to Varna media, the MEC clarified that the notice of the meeting has been published on the Commission’s website. The session is scheduled fully in line with the deadlines set in the Election Code, which is why it will be held on Sunday, the Commission noted.

Ivaylo Mirchev, Co-Chair of Yes, Bulgaria and MP from the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition, said at a news conference at the BTA National Press Club in Burgas that he was surprised by the MEC's decision. According to Mirchev, the purpose of the session is clearly to remove Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, a CC member, from office. Mirchev said that he, his party colleagues, and coalition partners learned of the planned meeting late on Friday.
