A travelling exhibition titled "Gutenberg and the Slavic World", dedicated to the Gutenberg Bible and the beginnings of Cyrillic printing in the Balkans, will open on June 7 at the Church of the Holy Cross in the Devin district of Bratislava. The event is organized as part of the annual celebrations honouring Saints Cyril and Methodius and is held under the patronage of Bulgaria's Ambassador to Slovakia, Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Bratislava announced.
The exhibition marks two major anniversaries: 560 years since the appearance of the Gutenberg Bible and 520 years since the publication of the first Cyrillic printed book in the Balkans. Special guest and curator of the exhibition will be Vasya Velinova, a professor at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski.
The programme includes an official opening ceremony, a Holy Liturgy, the exhibition opening, a children's workshop titled "Cyril and Methodius in Great Moravia", a concert by The International Gospel Society with Big John Whitfield, and a guided tour of Devin Castle. Organizers described the event as a celebration of culture, literacy and spiritual heritage.
