Lachezar Valchev won the silver in the men's triple jump at the European Athletics U23 Championships here on Sunday. The 20-year-old  Bulgarian overcame 16.48 meters on the third attempt, which earned him second place in the discipline and marked a personal best for him.

The gold went to Spain's Pablo Delgado, who won with a personal best of 16.55 metres. Italy's Federico Bruno came third with his season's best of 16.47 metres.

Valchev's is the second silver medal won by a Bulgarian athlete at the European Athletics U23 Championship, after Bozhidar Saraboyukov came second in the long jump event in Bergen on July 18.
