Bulgaria’s rhythmic gymnasts won a total of four medals at the World Cup in Baku over the weekend: one gold, one silver, and two bronze.
On Saturday, the Bulgarian ensemble secured the gold medal in the all-around final, while Stiliana Nikolova won bronze in the women’s individual all-around.
In Sunday’s apparatus finals, the Bulgarian team, made up of Sofia Ivanova, Alina Kolomiets, Suzan Pouladian, Danaia Atanasova, and Viktoria Georgieva, placed fourth in the five ribbons event with a total of 21.850 points (10.700 for difficulty, 6.750 for artistry, and 4.700 for execution). Reigning Olympic champions China took gold with 25.150 points, followed by Israel with 23.000 points and Kazakhstan with 21.850 points.
In the individual events, Stiliana Nikolova placed seventh in both the hoop and ball finals. She scored 28.200 points in the hoop, where Ukraine’s Taisiia Onofriichuk won gold with 29.250 points, Cyprus’s Vera Tugolukova took silver with 29.200 points, and Anastasiia Salos claimed bronze with 28.950 points. In the ball final, Nikolova received 27.450 points. Tugolukova took gold with a score of 28.450 points, followed by Onofriichuk with 28.100 and Alina Harnasko with 27.900.
Later in the day, Nikolova earned the silver medal in the clubs final with a score of 29.100 points (12.900 for difficulty, 8.200 for artistry, and 8.000 for execution). Germany’s Darja Varfolomeev, the 2024 Olympic champion, won gold with 30.450 points, while Onofriichuk took bronze with 28.950.
In the ribbon final, Nikolova missed the podium, finishing fourth with 28.150 points (12.500 for difficulty, 7.850 for artistry, and 7.800 for execution). Although she had the same total score as Italy’s Tara Dragas, the Italian had a higher execution score. The gold once again went to Varfolomeev, who received 28.450 points. Onofriichuk won silver with a score of 28.200 points.
In the final ensemble event - three balls and two hoops - the Bulgarian team won the bronze medal with a score of 26.450 points (12.600 for difficulty, 7.450 for artistry, and 6.400 for execution). Japan won gold with 27.200 points, while China claimed silver with 27.100 points.
