The Tourism Ministry sees the development of aviation connectivity as a strategic priority and a key factor for achieving sustainable growth, regional development, and a more even distribution of tourist flows throughout the year, Deputy Tourism Minister Irena Georgieva said on Friday. She was speaking at a forum titled “Tourism and Air Connectivity. Traditional Destinations and New Markets. The Key to Sustainable Growth,” organized by the National Board of Tourism and the Bulgarian Industrial Association with the support of the Tourism Ministry.
Georgieva underscored that Bulgaria continues to strengthen its position as an attractive tourist destination, citing positive developments in the launch of new air routes to and from Bulgarian airports for the upcoming winter season. She pointed to Varna Airport as an example, which will operate 16 routes to 11 countries during the 2025/26 winter season, including new direct flights to Frankfurt, Bratislava, and Bergamo. Although traditionally busier in the summer, Varna Airport’s expanded winter schedule represents a notable achievement, she said.
She added that Bulgaria has everything it needs - nature, culture, traditions and enterprising people - and that the task now is to guarantee accessibility, qualified professionals and a positive image. She concluded that this is the only way that tourism can be developed as an engine of the economy and a bridge between nations.
